Ibanez hot pink colour match?

Hi,

I've got a build on the go and I'm looking to match the late 80's hot/shocking pink for the finish. I've tried various flourescent pink spray cans but they come out more red than pink.

Has anyone managed to match hot/shocking pink?

Thanks,
Pete

Not familiar with that particular color, and you may already be aware of this.... Sometimes when using fluorescent paints, they require a white primer base in order to get the proper color effect.

Re: Ibanez hot pink colour match?

Thanks for the reply guys!

I had a look at the thread you mentioned but the paints only seen available in the U.S and i'm in the UK

Yep i used a white base primer but it still comes out more red than pink. I've found another brand of paint with a colour called 'gleaming pink' so i'll give that a try!

The colour i want is pretty much the same as the pink dimarzio clip lock straps, I'm using one for this project. Has anyone tried matching to that?

Thanks,
Pete

You'll have to call Dayglo to find out who they distribute to in the UK. If you want shocking pink, this is probably the only way your going to get it right.

Have you tried Createx? They're readily available in the UK. I haven't seen the pink in the flesh, but I'm using their fluorescent yellow for a 777DY refurb and it's a great match.

I recommend the Shimrin Neon range from House Of Kolor.... I used the neon green over a wide base and it was brrriigghhht!

Here goes. Apologies if the images don't come out too great - I can't work out the best way to upload on this forum!

The second shot shows the paint in the bottle right next to my (admittedly grubby) VDY neck and the body shot is after one coat. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the finish actually, because I'm not a pro by any means.

Re: Ibanez hot pink colour match?

I've used the DayGlo paints and if you are spraying - it is very tricky! It is actually thinned with mineral spirits, and they don't give you a dilution. I had even called them. I had it sprayed on and it looked PERFECT! Then, once I cleared it, the Pink became a RFR color - which is cool if that's what your going for, but I wasn't. Yellow did fine, and Orange did fine. Green was tricky in itself to lay a even coat. Too much, and it was no longer fluorescent.

I 2nd the comment about using the HOK Neons. They are meant to be reduced and sprayed. As with any neon, or base for that matter - a white base is what you will also need. Spraying Neon can be tricky as it is very transparent. If your coats are not even - IT WILL SHOW!

Don't waste your time on DayGlo UNLESS you are just going to brush it on, and not reduce it. Then when you clear it you will be fine.

Rodney have you ever seen an LNG in person? They do tend to have some uniformity issues unlike DY's and SK's. I also always felt that they were not extremely neon looking.

Re: Ibanez hot pink colour match?

Yes - I have noticed that. For some reason, of all the Neon's - Green is the most difficult to spray - it is VERY transparent. You have to really take your time misting it on, and applying coats.
