JEM777 30th neck pocket finish crack !!!!!

Ok, so its one of my most heartbreaking days ...

my JEM777 30th DY has developed a hairline crack in the neck pocket

Has anyone successfully fixed/repaired such an issue on any of their guitars???

Same happened on my 77FP when I flew it back from Japan. Was so annoyed.
But once I took the neck off to check it out the two tiny hairline cracks are only in the paintwork not the wood at all so no implications for neck stability or playing issues.

How's yours?

I'm not sure if it's possible to fix paint.. I'd be nervous that anything you could apply might be more obvious than the finish issue itself..

But this is a common enough issue that if anyone's figured it out I'm sure they'll be on here..

Most Square heel neck pockets develop hairline cracks soon or later; related to fast paint/clearcoat drying in a high sheer stress area. They use to go through the wood, but they are not a functional problem. Play your guitar and don’t think more about it; if it has a neck problem crack, then it’s a good replica, just like the ‘87 ones!

My 777 had one from new, and I wasn't the only one. It's just cosmetic, no point losing sleep over it because it was a matter of when, not if.

I always consider these are in the wood. Finish doesn't just crack without having the wood move under it. But on anything basswood and especially plate joint as said, it's not a question of if but when.

I've see them repaired by Hoshino, you can always tell. Leave it alone.

Between the finish and the wood something must have moved relative to the other to cause a crack. That is for sure. But when I take the neck off there's no visible cracking or separation on the inside of the neck pocket on mine.
The hairline crack in the finish starts from the point of the angle and the wood there internally appears intact.

Mines been like that for over a decade. Hasn't affected tuning stability or playability and I'm never selling it so I don't really care.

Would be interesting to know what's actually going on though. Has anyone ever stripped one down to see?

My other square heel joint of a similar age is a PGM100 which has has the finish removed and its neck joint is immaculate.
But I don't know if it had finish cracks before as it was the previous over who sanded it back. So it's not a real test..

My JS1CR developed it recently too. I am guessing for me it was the temperature changes in the east coast even with heating and trying to maintain the house at a constant temp. My guitar has not been moved from my room. I restrung the JS1CR and noticed it. I am sure it was not like that when I got it around April because I inspected that area as I had a JEM with that issue once.
