JS1000 String Buzz Question

I just got a new (used) JS1000 and got it back from my local tech. The string height was a bit too high, so I lowered it. It's now around 1/16th at the 12th fret, but I have a lot of string buzz. The neck relief seems to be okay (just a little bit of relief). Any ideas of how to solve this myself before I take it back to the tech? If I can figure it out on my own, I'd certainly like to.

is the string buzz anywhere throughout the f-board or is it just on certain area? and how worn the frets are?

Frets are in great shape but the fret buzz is most noticable on the lower frets. It's at its worst from around 4-7. It gets a bit better around the 10th, but it's defintely affected the whole neck. Maybe there's a neck shim that needs to be removed?

if 1/16" means 0.158mm i think you have too low action. well, it wouldn't be too low if your tech leveled the fretboard, but i assume he didnt and he got rid of the buzz by setting high action. easy trick that a pro tech shouldn't do.

seems like there's a bump around 7-9 frets area, i'd try to give the truss-rod a little tightening, 1/6 turn clockwise, just to see if the bump disappears.

Just got it back from the local tech a 2nd time (1st time was just a basic setup but there was still a LOT of buzzing). 2nd time we spent some time brainstorming and decided to do a fret-level (crown & polish). Got it back today and it's just perfect! Buzz is all but gone and action is reasonable. One final question for the JS lovers: What height are your pickups set at? I have a volume diparity between the neck and bridge and can't find any factory specs for setting pickup height. Thanks mucho for any tips.

i think there aren't factory specs for pickups height as it's a rather personal taste thing, i guess.
you have a volume gap between the pickups? i assume the neck p-up sounds louder than bridge p-up, right? if so, lower the neck pickup by loosening its height screws right on its mounting ring. usually, on a guitar like that, the pickup should rest flush to its mounting ring, i guess (that's how i set pickups height usually).

rule of thumb:
too high pickup > more magnetic pull, more attack, more volume, dirty sound, shorter sustain.
too low pickup > less magnetic pull, more sustain, clean and natural sound, more dinamics, less volume etc.

i usually never set them higher than half the gap between their mounting rings and the strings.
