Just finished sanding, whats next before tung oil?

I plan on using tung oil on a project guitar which I have sanded down with 320 grit. Whats the next step before applying the oil? Am I supposed to wipe the body down with mineral oil to clean the surface of all oils which come out of our skin or just go to the oil?
Thanks
Rick

I just went straight to the tung oil and had no problems.

I usually use Naptha for wiping down prior to a finish. Tru oil is more forgiving than say Nitro, but it helps to remove dust, etc...

Best thing to do before applying the oil is to raise the grain. A damp cloth wiped on the dry wood will expand the wood fibers. After it is dry, sand the neck smooth with 400 - 600 grit paper, and repeat the process until the neck stays smooth (3-4 times should be enough). Then apply the oil (matte finish tung oil works best) and I promise you will get excellent results. This process was used on Steve Vai's Tom Anderson guitar as well as EVH's Tom Anderson neck that was fitted to "Frankenstein" in the late 80's.

Re: Just finished sanding, whats next before tung oil?

Hey, this is a little off topic, so shoot me. My kid has an s5470 in the satin oil mahagony body that's beginning to look a little dryish and duller to me than it did when he got it a year ago. Is the oil on it satin finish tung oil, and does Ibanex expect you'll re-oil it from time to time to keep the finish fresh?

Also while I'm on the topic of oil, a project guitar I am into has an RG body (a 250 DX) that the prior owner stripped it to natural - originally jewel blue - and did what looks like a tung oil finish. I kinda like the natural finish of the guitar, although it is a 4 piece body that needs to be sanded a bit more to get glue stains off. It's had Evos put in with a mystery SC in the middle position, has an FR licensed trem and had Grover tuners put on it - all harware is gold. I've got new pots and switch coming, new white pearloid pick guard, truss cover and control covers coming. Any suggestions, insights, opinions, you know.

Normally after sanding I crack open another beer.
