Maple fretboard oil/finish? Zar?

I'm looking at getting a set of mirrored dot inlays from aiguitars on the bay, but knowing that I'm going to have to sand them down flush to the board, I was worried that I would lose the mirror finish on the inlays. In addition, from what I can tell the neck I've got has a maple fretboard which I think has had any finish sanded from it.

So I sent him a message and got this reply (which also answered a fretboard question too!):

Dear rickybaby666,

we can do a set of 20 dots for 10.00 total... that includes shipping.
we just take our boards to 320 grit most of the time and then put either zar on the maple or lemon oil on the rosewood or ebony boards. it makes the board and inlays shine.

- aiguitars

Does anyone have any idea what this zar is that he mentioned? I've searched, and the only thing I can find is a brand of stain/varnish, which doesn't sound like a lemon oil equivalent to me?!

Or, does anyone have their own experience of mirrored inlays and maple fretboards and what did you use?

Thanks in advance guys and girls!

Rich

Re: Maple fretboard oil/finish? Zar?

Its not lemon oil because maple boards are usually finished in gloss to protect the wood. I'd guess the zar you found is what they mean.
