My Jem FP restoration

So I recently bought a body and neck from Ebay Australia..
I have almost all the hardware I need including brand new pink Dimarzio gravity storms, and a pink Air norton Single for the middle pup... With help from andrewsfury thanks

Only thing im missing is an original Jem neck plate, which the buyer I bought the body and neck from still has and wont sell it to me until he decides to list it on ebay. he thinks he will retire with the price he will get instead of just selling it to me at a fair price.. Considering I already bought the body and neck from him.. Anyways I will wait till he lists it or I find one sooner.

Body is in pretty good condition with some of the usual fading that these seem to have, and I really like the pattern on this one, cause it has some nice red flowers. The headstock has been previously re-clear coated and whoever did the job neglected to research that the Jem script is in gold not pink.. I may fix this myself, but not sure as the second clear coat was a crappy job, so I fear anymore clear coating and its just going to ruin it.. Unless its possible to remove the clear coat and start again..

On a slightly different note. I was watching an episode of Cash Cowboys and they visited this old man and his son. And in the sons room not touched since he was a child in 70's had curtains which were the same pattern as the FP... Id love to contact them and buy the curtains off him :P

So on the pics

Re: My Jem FP restoration

Nice project...

It's the clearcoat that yellows right? I was wondering if it's just the upper layers that degrade or whether it's all the way through down to the fabric. If it was the top layers wouldn't something like auto paint T-Cut or equivalent get it back to new looking? Could always put more clear on to build it up again.

Assuming here that you'd want to do this - if you like the aged look that's just cool though as it's a nice way to appreciate the classic element to the guitar ;-)

Re: My Jem FP restoration

Probably leave it the way it is and just install all the hardware and get it back to playing mode..

If it is possible to use t-cut and the add more clear, then I might go that route, but would use a professional to do it.. and that might cost a bit !!

I think I will keep it looking vintage, just with new hardware

Re: My Jem FP restoration

Damn cool project J!!

I'd keep it as original and as "vintage" as possible. Did you get any opinions from Barbie or Midge??

(I can't believe I'm the first one to mention that....LOL)
