My USA custom...something wierd???

OK, I have a weird symptom but I can't say if there's a "problem".

I've been playing my UCGR unplugged lately and noticed that when the trem bar rotates to the straight down position my D,G,B and E strings ring MUCH louder acoustically, but only when a note is fretted above the 13th......... if I rotate the bar up it goes back to normal acoustic volume. What is this??? I've NEVER heard this before (not even on this guitar)

Re: My USA custom...something wierd???

thats weird... the only thing I could think of is the weight of the arm is making it resonate louder. Why? who knows... maybe some our luthiers here can chime in.

Trem arm pointed down would pull on the trem on those strings you listed... pulling it tighter onto the trem stud, but the weight of the trem arm shouldnt be enough to do that. is it possible the E and A strings are more quiet instead of the others being louder?

no, it actually happens while fretting above 13 only... below 13 it's completely normal.

you know how some notes will naturally resonate a little louder than others (resonant frequencies).... it's like that but if I move the trem arm while the note is ringing, it will decrease in volume.

You can do volume swells with your trem arm!
