Re: WTB: Neck with tree of life inlay

ET Guitars- they did an ebony w/ silver and green mirror inlay for me awhile back and it is SUPERB!!! (It's the one on their website for Rev. Charlie)

I've also gotten one from Deep6/Legacy (also member here) that is waiting to be mated to a bod but seems dead on- VWH-style inlay in rosewood, very nice.

Yeah you can forget about a decent quality vine neck for under 200. I found an awesome looking and feeling one from deep6 for 185, but it required a bit of work in terms of sanding and refinishing, and I dont know how your skills are for that stuff, or if you even have any.
I meant to say, a good quality ready-to-install one. Why can't I edit my own post all of a sudden?

For the time and materials involved. I think $700 is reasonable. Imagine if you had to buy the materials, then spend the time milling and shaping to the finest detail. Cutting the inlay in perfectly. Cutting the frets, scalloping the neck, finishing the fretwork. Painting the headstock. applying. Drilling the mounting holes perfectly. All this take time and enourmous craftsmanship. And after all that. It still wouldn't be an original Ibanez neck. $700 sounds like a lot of money. But it's a fair price. So any thing less than $700 for a quality vine inlay neck seem reasonable.

Woah, in that case I got a freakin' steal when I bought from deep6. AAAA flame maple fretboard with green and chrome mirror vine for under 200...granted it needed some sanding and a little refinishing, but its nothing my luthier friend couldnt do for me for free. ET also seems to make quality stuff at pretty fair prices, from what I've seen.

you are making this too complicated for yourself.
im pretty sure that if you asked a luthier/tech to replace a fingerboard with new inlays and frets etc then you are already into custom neck money - may as well just get a luthier to make you a neck from scratch. if youre worried that you cant afford it then the other route is DIY.
the cheapest neck I make is about ÂŁ190 and vines are about ÂŁ240 depending on spec.
I would charge very close to that to replace a fingerboard, do inlay and fret/level. so would many others because of the time involved..

a while ago I was quoted ÂŁ200 for just a refret on an RG.. so, its a deal, its a steal its the sale of the ........ century

DIY work.

There you go, tree of life for under $100

If you dont want to DIY you can buy the parts and have a luthier do it for cheap.
