Noise when switching pickup

Hi

I have noticed when I am playing, and many other peoples playing that when I change to the neck pup, or other pickup, you can hear a "click" or a Pop as it changes...

On high end guitar demo's on youtube, it shows the person changing throughout playing, guitarworld for one.

Now i have noticed on some others, like the Godin guitar review, it does what mine does...
I am guessing here, but could it be to do with the shielding? I could only say it is breaking and re-connecting a circuit in milliseconds, which is understandable where the noise comes from, the loss of signal the the regained signal being outputted, just like when you have a dodgy cable, or when you take it out you get a popping noise... I wouldn't know if shielding effects this?
Or is it the way they are mic'ed up?

THanks alot!

John

Re: Noise when switching pickup

There will always be some noise when changing, due to breaking and reconnecting the circuit so fast. But an extremely noisy one is either a dirty or bad switch, or microphonic pups.
