Arrow Placement of floyd rose studs

I am wanting to experiment and mod a $50 yamaha pacifica 112c. I want to place a locking trem on it. There are some cheap Floyd Rose Licensed models on *bay. Fun 1st project.

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial? My main concern is drilling the two holes for the studs and ensuring they are in the right place.

the cheap licensed floyd rose:

Is this where i drill:

thanks kindly

Re: Placement of floyd rose studs

that does not look like a double locking floyd. it looks like the cheap one I got on my rg. The strings slip into the saddles at the bridge side, so they don't lock. Also, for some reason it says that the post spacing is 74.5mm. Not sure that's what you want to do. The schematic looks right, and you can double check the dimensions with stewmac's online bridge placement calculator.

Put in your frets, scale (25.5" I believe), and it will tell you where to drill the holes for the floyds. seems that your schematic has .175" difference where the stewmac one has .25". Only .075" off, so not even 2mm Pretty close!

I'd suggest getting the floyd rose special, as it has had some good reviews and is built to original floyd specs (or so they claim). Cheap too.

Re: Placement of floyd rose studs

the image i showed was for a single locking trem. I would prefer a double locking which they sell as least that is what I am used to. SO basically i measure from the fretboard face side of the nut to the centre of where I would drill the two holes for the studs it would seem.

The guitar parts depot licensed floyd looks good but it is 3x the cost of the other I was looking at...I guess you get what you pay for..but this is my first project..mounting it on a $50 guitar...I do have a budget LOL!!!

I ran across this tutorial but it is old and the pictures dont show anymore unfortunately. The part that Im most curious about is the comment on the 6 holes from the old bridge lining up with the floyd rose posts with these holes becomes the pivot point.

I just need to see a photo of where the post holes would go in relation to these 6 holes from the former bridge.

here is the tutorial:

has anyone seen an online video of this being done before?

Re: Placement of floyd rose studs

I have a question. Kinda new to the world of floyd rose, other then just playing on my edge II or III couple years back. Just got a RG2570E and I wanna know what locking studs do and if its actually and significant difference in upgrading the studs. or even to a OFR. I want my baby to be perfect. =D
