Possibly A Noob Question

If you put locking tuners on an RG with an Edge/Lo-Pro would it eliminate the need for a locking nut? I would think it would have to have a high-quality standard nut in its place too (Carvin gets by without it). I know the EBMM Petrucci is full-floating and has the standard nut with locking tuners but the bridge is completely different so I can't really compare. I also know some of the 2008 Prestige RG's dropped the retainer bar but I'm not sure if they have locking tuners or not.

Just curious, thanks.

No the locking nut isn't required..... The Locking machine heads will do fine. But I'd look for a roller nut to replace the locking nut. Finding one that fits correctly may be an issue though!

Re: Possibly A Noob Question

That is simply not true. Only a locking nut can guarantee the tuning stability required when using a locking trem, especially when you use the full range (which is probably where the JP trem differs)

Even if the nut (roller, graphite, whatever) is slippery enough to allow perfect return of the string, you will still have slippage on the tuner posts. That will lead to some tuning stability issues.

Eviltwin is right,.. in theory...

In practice,.. a friend of mine has a EBMM JPM, and stays in tune better than my ibanez JPM, why ? I don't know, it just does..
