Pot type is down to preference. Linear and Audio tapers will both work but personally I don't like the way a linear taper sounds. I stick with audio for both. As for brands, I've been using CTS and recently switched to Bourns, which are much better but harder to work with since they have the plastic backs. PEC are about the best you can get but they are also hard to work with since they have stainless steal housings. They also only have a threaded shaft of about 1/4" so they only work well on pick guards. At one point the Dimarzio pots were just relabeled CTS if I'm not mistaken. I like to try different caps and so far I like PIO caps best but I'm after the more mellow tone they give.
