Problem with new tubes

I just purchased 2 Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH Tubes for my Digitech 2112 FX processor. The original tubes would glow red with heat, but the new EH tubes dont glow at all...does this mean they are faulty? Whats the deal? Please Help! (I got the tubes from www.thetubestore.com)
I dont notice any immediate change in sound quality. The original tubes I replaced were abut 7 years old.
Thanks

Daniel

There's probably nothing wrong with the tubes. The I have the 2101 and a lot of it's sound based in solid state circuitry even in the tube overdrive modes. Obviously in the other overdrive modes or with the overdrive off you'll notice no difference. I notice very little difference from tube to tube in the 2101. Just very slight differences in the distiction between the two gain stages. A lower gain tube in slot #1 vs. a higher gain tube in slot #2 or vice versa can change the way it breaks up. That said, I haven't used the 2101 overdrive for anything-ever. I always have other preamps I use instead in front of it. My tube experiments were to squeeze at least something out of the overdrive that I liked. I don't know if the 2112 is better, but I wouldn't worry about the sound difference (or lack of)

The heater element may just not be as visible as your old tubes.
As long as they work, that is the prime concern.
