Pulling Trem Anchors?

Hey guys I usually leave these in, but I was going to pull a set. I thought I had read somewhere to drop a small bolt or screw down head first and put the stud back in and tighten till it comes out. I gingerly tried this but didnt want to put too much pressure on it for fear of breaking the wood under the anchor. So far it hasn't budged. Any suggestions on how to get them out without screwing up a perfectly good body?

I believe due care and a claw hammer is ok. I'm sure RGTFanatic has shown some pictures doing this here in the past.

I've never had luck with the hammer approach. A pair of vice grips and manning up for a sexond has always worked well for me.

I keep an old stud around for pulling them with a claw hammer.
Put a towel rolled up on the body for protection.
You can roll a piece of wood up in the towel if you're really worried.

Make sure to score around the insert with an exacto/razor.. otherwise you risk pulling up some of the clear/paint when you pull them.

Re: Pulling Trem Anchors?

Thanks, I got them out with a nail puller and used a wood block as protection, they came right out. The problem with the way I tried it first is that the anchors on this one are actually closed at the bottom so I wasn't even pushing against the wood.

Re: Pulling Trem Anchors?

I used this method, if your trem bushings do not have a bottom, IE you can see wood when you look down into them, you can cut a piece of dowel that fits inside the bushing long enough to fill the hole in the center but leaving enough room to start a couple of threads on a trem post, then tight the trem post and watch it pull right out of the body.
