question: please respond if you can

i have nearly completely sanded my guitar body, albeit a bit rough, and wondered if wood stain would cover up the areas where it has not been sanded right to the wood itself. what i mean is that there are areas where the clear coating, primer, whatever it is where you can see the wood but its not right down to the wood, you know, its smooth, not down to the wood grain, clear shiny stuff. there.

do i have to sand right to the wood grain or can i get on and stain the thing?

Yeah, it's best to take it down to the bare wood. The stain won't penetrate the remnants of the previous finish. Good luck and have fun!

thats very kind! thankyou, if only there were more people like you on this board who were kind and could string a sentence together, me included.

i know alot of people would cringe at how rough the body is now that its been sanded, but i really like it, it looks like it been ripped off a tree and cut into shape! only thing is there are some serious chunks out of bits where i had nail varnish painted on, i removed most of the paint with a heat gun and the nail varnish exploded in flames burning into the wood, its ok i think just some dents into the body.
