refinishing question

this has probably been discussed but i am rushed today. i have a gibson Les Paul DC Studio of a friend of mine here, and he wants it refinished with an opaque completely glass smooth finish (just the body). i'm tung oiling a neck. It has a mahogany back and maple (not figured) top. Any idea what kinda wood filler (or other product) i shouuld use to fill in the grain so i can get a glass smooth finish for the opaque color.

Re: refinishing question

Re: refinishing question

hha probably. since i'm doing an opaque finish.. could i just use that on the maple too?? so i don't have to buy 2 different fillers

Re: refinishing question

Maple requires no filler. You can't even get it into the wood's grains if you want to because they're so tight.

Re: refinishing question

You can buy clear filler too. I just bought some Birchwood Casey clear grain filler sealer for a project I'm working on. I haven't used it yet but it should be okay.
