Repair it. Get the anchors back upright where they belong and fill in around them with epoxy. Another option would be to pull the anchors, drill out and fill the holes with wood, redrill the anchor holes and reinstall the anchors. You said it is to mess with, so mess with it. If it doesn't work you can always still get another body, but you will probably be happy with the results.

Yeah just get some sort of hard wood dowel, drill out the old hole so you can glue the dowel in nice and tight, and drill to put the trem anchors in. Will be better than factory.

Basswood has a tendency to allow the trem posts to move around in it as it is a soft wood.

If the crack isn't spreading you can try the dowel fix.

Re: repair or get new body?

Be sure to glue up the cracks (Titebond).

Re: repair or get new body?

To get a crack like you describe sounds like someone abused the crap out of the tremelo, maybe just yanked it out of the guitar with the strings on. Normal wear and tear shouldn't cause that so if you drill it out a bit and glue and put a tight dowel like as described above you shouldn't have any issue. When redrilling the anchors be sure to use a drill press or you'll never get the posts straight. Proper drill bit size for an OFR (original Floyd Rose) trem is 25/64's, not sure about the edge but it's close. It also helps to use a Brad Point type bit to center the bit where you want it.

Just curious. After you dowel those holes, how do you locate where to drill? I would think the location would need to be very precise.

Re: repair or get new body?

Well you do only want to use a slightly larger dowel. Then drill from the center of that. You could of course remeasure based on scale length but ultimately its not quite as difficult as it might seem to be.

Re: repair or get new body?

The distance is 25.5 inches from the nut to where the strings first contact the bridge. The posts are offset forward a little from there. For example on the original floyd rose the distance is 25" exactly to the center of the posts.

I have a js100 I just bought and the same problem crack from tremolo post into bridge pickup cavity.

Is there something going on with ibanez bodies in that location or just abusive 1st owners?
