replace Tremolo

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2000 Ibanez S470 jb with a lo trs II, I was wondering if I could put Ibanez ZR trem in its place without any body work or body gaps (like basically bolt in)….any help...

Re: replace Tremolo

You should do a search, I'm sure this has been asked a few time. Answer is no though. ZR trem is quite a different design to regular Floyd Rose type designs.

Re: replace Tremolo

I dont know if its an exact swap, but if its not, I would not do it. Its not worth the money buying a replacement and then having it professionally installed. will cost you a far bit. Your better off selling that guitar and adding the cost of the replacement trem and installation fees, for a better guitar...

No trem in the world will make your playing better, only playing will make your playing better, so maybe consider that before butchering your guitar for more whammy controll..

Im not being an Ahole, im seriously letting you know that to much guitar modification, and gear purchase can sometimes get in the way of actually getting down to some serious playing...

good luck with your guitar

Exactly! This very question was asked twice in the past 24 hours. That little search function is there for a reason.

Re: replace Tremolo

In truth I always played a les paul (epiphone) guitar and I bought this cheap, in bad condition, been fixing it up, I have not had problems with the lo trs II yet, it’s only been a week, only looking for future options tremolo and pickups and such…

Thank you, all, for your input…

Re: replace Tremolo

just thought I'd throw this out there. I have a low trs, I think, and it did not have good tuning stability until I blocked it to dive only and replaced the saddles with the string saver ones. I get great stability now. Lots of huge dives and I have to do minor tuning tweaks after many hours of playing. Unless you want a floater it might not be necessary to replace the whole thing.

Re: replace Tremolo

You could switch to something from the Original Floyd Rose family (meaning FR or one of the aftermarket compatible designs). The ZR and OFR/Edge style trems need substantially different routes. It is not realistic (under normal circumstances) to convert a guitar from one type to the other, due to the extensive work required.
