RG2550EX Trem problem

I have a RG2550EX and i have only had for 1 month. I wanted to change strings and took off all the strings. I placed all the strings in without a ball end and clamped then. When i came to tuning it just rattled that much that i cudnt tune it. I noticed that my trem was all the way down and was touching the guitar and not floating. Ive finally got the strings in but i can only pull up on my whammy and it clunks when i let it off. Ive looked at tutorials but cant work it out. I will try and post pictures. Thanks!

The thing that confuses me is that i dont understand how it has "dropped" into my guitar just from changing the strings, as im sure the strings couldnt of held it up that much. Its like something has snapped and it doesnt hold it up anymore.

So confusing, they should have instructions with these guitars, as i wasnt told how to do it at the guitar shop and took them over an hour to work it out lol!

Thanks for the help

I just thought of why it probably "dropped". You most likely put lower gauge strings on it which caused the tension of the strings to be less than the tension of the springs. (This means that the strings aren't strong enough to pull the bridge up level.) If this is the case, you or your local tech will have to re-intonate the bridge to that string gauge. Read the article on intonation, action height, and trem angle.

Rich, am i getting better at floating trem advice? Remember when i was a newbie?

Sorta, but the guy said he couldn't tune because the strings were rattling [because they're laying on the frets now most likely] and never makes it clear if it's sorted and in tune now or not.

Well i have this trick when that happens where i hold the tremolo up with the bar and get it in tune. I think that might work.

1.Press the bar down so the tremolo angle is good.

2.tune the guitar.

3.monitor intonation

Rich why don't you, jeremy, the ekg come up with the ideal locking tremolo and patent it?

well i put gauge 0.09 strings on. Maybe that could be it. But even when i didnt have the strings on it was dropped? I will try holding it up and tuning like that. Thanks for the help. BTW the ratling was my clamps at the top, the "top" piece of the clamp was just resting on the strings and also my guitar is in tune. Maybe i will just keep it down lol!

Thanks for the help again!

your normally supposed to ram a piece of wood or sumthing under the tremolo to stop it from falling down when you take the strings off.

Murf you can't leave it laying down because then your intonation is crappy. Just follow rich's directions.
