Smile RG2EX1 Refinish Project

So I started my RG2EX1 Refinish project tonight, I don't know what kinda finish im gonna end up doing, but im kinda leaning towards a natural finish, but that all depends on what the wood looks like. Well anyways the guitar is a Jewel Blue Ibanez RG2EX1 that I picked up at Guitar Center awhile back. It has a couple of nicks and dents, but nothing to major, but the finish is factory, thats the problem lol. I like to have custom guitars that I did.

I Have pics, but I cant post them until I have 10 posts, so when I do, I'll post them.

*I'll probably start stripping the finish tomorrow since its getting kind of late.*

Re: RG2EX1 Refinish Project

So Last week I started sanding down the finish, but rather than going down to the sealer, I just "Roughed up" the clear with 60 Grit sandpaper, and then smoothed it out with 150 Grit. Then I masked off the control cavity and hit it with a few coats of white primer which is my base coat. Then the fun began. I Sprayed down my hand with red gloss paint, and smeared a hand print onto the body, and then made a "splatter" tool by using a stick, and some paper towels. The splatter process was soak the paper towel in spray paint and then just start whipping my wrist. I'm very happy with the results so far

*The holding stick is an old cracked Squier neck*

Heres the paint I'm using.
Pics after sanding.

Re: RG2EX1 Refinish Project

That's pretty cool. I probably would have put down some coats of actual top coat white rather than just leave it as primer, but still, I like the idea.

I like the bloody handprint--you should name the guitar Wilson.

Yeah, I'd be afraid primer alone will pick up dirt very easily. Maybe spray it with a good clear like Krylon Crystal Clear.
