Re: RG321 neck

Is the guitar still playing fine?

Could be the fretboard coming slightly unglued from the neck, or some of the wood being stripped by the neck screws.

Re: RG321 neck

Sometimes the fretboard glue gets in between the truss rod slot, truss rod, and fretboard. So you year a cracking sound on new necks until everything regains motion again and the glue bond is broken. Even after that, sometimes the glue rubs against the truss rod so you still hear that noise. You can hear it a lot when you give a new guitar it's first truss rod adjustment too. Inspect it for any cracks at all the glue joint lines and if there's nothing, then it's probably fine.

Re: RG321 neck

Watch out for cracks in the back of the neck around the headstock, among other places.

Re: RG321 neck

It could just be the sound of the wood binding with the screws. I wouldn't worry about it. But don't bend your neck anymore

I have the same guitar, but in the Mahogany Oil finish. I love it! I wouldn't mind getting it routed for a Lo Pro though. The height adjustment screws on the saddles bug me to death, I can't stand them when I have to rest my hand on the bridge.

Re: RG321 neck

I had a similar problem with a hard-tail bridge on a 421.

The tops of the heigh adjustment screw would shread the side of my hand.

You can get shorter set-screws or shim the neck enough to raise the saddles off the bridge a little.

I did the latter and everything is fine.

Re: RG321 neck

You could send it back and just mention that it has the fret buzz and you'd like a replacement. Or just take it to a good guitar repair guy and have him check it out. He can atleast make sure that you have the proper trussrod adjustment and set it up the way that you want. And have him check out the neck too, just to make sure.

Yeah, it'd definitely be less of a hassle to just have a professional look at it before you consider sending it back. It could just be something small that you've overlooked. I know when I got my RG370DX it had some bad fret buzz but the guy at the store adjusted the truss rod and that got rid of MOST of it. But later, I took the locks off the neck so that I could stretch the strings and back out the fine tuners and after that the fret buzz completely disappeared.
