RG570 edge trem post body crack

Hi

I have had a go at wicking super glue into a hairline crack on my RG570 (pics hopefully attached)

The crack goes from the trem post insert to the tremolo rout and is around 12mm deep. I was able to remove the insert and get at the crack from inside the post hole. The glue (CA pink/fine) mostly dribbled outside the crack instead of sucking into it like I had hoped.

My options now seem to be:
The good: Take it to a pro mender
The bad: Reinstall trem and hope for the best
The ugly: Try and sand back the finish on the tremolo rout side of the crack and wick glue in from the other side.

Any thoughts/opinions on what to do next please? I was getting advice from a local repair guy but he is out of action for a bit so the project has stalled.

Jim

Re: RG570 edge trem post body crack

option 3 is the one I would take.

I would use a SMALL flat blade screwdriver to scrape away as little finish as possible to expose the crack. Lay the body in a position that will allow gravity to help wick the CA in. After it's dry, a little fingernail polish over the repair will have it looking fine.

On a side note, it looks like some of the knurling from the anchor has been destroyed. I would double check that the anchor doesn't have any play to it when installed.

Thanks RGTFanatic for your insight. I will have to try and build up the post wall, probably with thicker super glue and sanding dust if the insert ends up with a little play on it. If it really wobbles and the hole needs filling with dowel and re-drilling I'll probably take it to a pro.

Just gotta get the stones together to scrape off the paint and get a good look at the rest of this darned crack. My gf will no doubt enjoy colour matching nail varnish to cover it up once its repaired

Re: RG570 edge trem post body crack

Hi again,

I've had a 'crack' at glueing from the other side and it went ok, but its slightly messy on the top when I went shaky.

As it happens it looked as though quite a bit of glue from the first application did seep all the way through, although the crack still wicked in a little more this time around.

Even though the repair is no longer going to be invisible I am happy that I've got as much glue as possible into the hairline crack so cheers again RGTFanatic

I am unlikely to have time to cover the repair before my summer hols so will upload finished photo another time.

Latest pic attached , I had to delete one of the first pics to make upload room for it.

Update:

When the bridge insert went back in after repair the crack opened up again and a new crack also formed next to it. Am totally gutted, will likely have to look for an RG body now.

Send it to Mick Johnson - he will fix it and you will not even know it ever happened.
