Sanding Sticky Necks

I just read the article about sanding off the glossy finish on the back of the neck. Not a bad idea considering that the thick gloss finish slows down your playing.

However, I just finished a bass guitar from a kit (Carvin) and the method of finishing I used leaves the neck nice and smooth and satiny (even better than the bare wood). I really hadn't realized how sticky my Ibanez (SRX505) neck was until I had done this.

You can refinish your neck after sanding it. Go ahead and sand it according to the instructions in the article but after that do this:
1. Apply a light coat of MinWax Tung Oil. Put a little on some cheesecloth and buff it into the wood. Apply it and buff it at the same time. Buff it until it is almost dry to the touch.
2. Let dry and sand lightly with 0000 steel wool.
3. Repeat 3 or 4 times.
Very nice. I guarantee you'll like it.

Thanks for the tip, but if you do a search on the forum you'll see that is actually the preffered method of most players here that have sanded thier neck(s) . . .

Old news, so to speak. ;-)
