Strange Floyd Problem

Hello i have an ESP LTD EC-1000 with a floyd on it. And i have a very weird issue i have seen no solution to.

The guitar will ONLY stay in tune when its 100% perpendicular to the ground, even if i tune it slightly tilted toward my body sitting down. After i start yanking on the bar back and forth, the guitar will only go back in tune if i have it strapped on standing up. I have read through all of the trem setup steps by Rich and i know he mentions this. But it shouldnt be as extreme as this case is.

None of my Jems or Charvels do this. I can lay them on a table and they will only go about 4-5 cents sharp close to what a fixed bridge guitar does.
This guitar will go 25-30 cents sharp laying it flat on the table. and 5-10 cents sharp by pretty much just breathing on the thing.

It will literally go out of tune by just tilting the guitar ONE CENTIMETER either side. What the FK is wrong with this guitar? And I even returned it for another, same model. Same issue still here. I have only found a few people with this weirdo issue on the net, but i could not find a solution to the problem. Desperate for help lol, cheers.

Re: Strange Floyd Problem

It's the polar vortex.

Actually, that's just weird.

Yep. If you have not encountered this problem. It sure is weird.

It has a mahogany set neck, I have never had a mahogany neck guitar with a FR before. I wonder if this is part of a problem compared something like maple that is much harder. But then again, Dimebag used mahogany necks and he abused the crap out of his.

Re: Strange Floyd Problem

The only thing that makes sense is if it had a 3 pound bar.

Re: Strange Floyd Problem

the only 2 things i can think of would be if the floyd studs where loose, they'd have be pretty noticeably loose though for it to have a ton of effect on the tuning. Another possibility is if you have play in the neck. when the guitar is perpendicular to the ground I assume you have the neck supported, when you take it away from support the neck shifts under tension of the strings. Prehaps putting a little more tension on the trussrod one way or another could sure up any play you have?
