String action changed after six months?

Got my 7v around june and sent it for a setup.

After around six months of playing, I feel the string action on my guitar, particularly the 3 higher strings, has raised. There is also slight buzzing on the low E, but nothing that would choke bends or frets, problems which I don't think I had six months ago.

Is it true that the neck changes when you change strings and don't block the trem? I was cleaning my fretboard about a month ago and I didnt put strings on it for around 1 hour, and I never block it if I choose to take all the strings off.

Hopefully my neck isn't permanently twisted or warped because of this.

Re: String action changed after six months?

The neck changes when you replace strings but it will go right back to where it was when you get all the strings back on, assuming that you replace the strings with the same gauge you had on it before.

Have you checked the relief of the neck? Based upon what you described, the relief may have changed (backbowed slightly) and the truss rod may just need to be tightened a bit. After 6 months, having to do this isn't that unusual.

I'd recommend spending a few bucks and getting a set of feeler gauges from a hardware store. This will allow you to precisely measure the neck relief so if your guitar's action feels different to you (over time) you can know for sure by checking the neck relief.

Humidity and temperature changes will affect the action as well. Generally, if nothing else has changed, string, tuning, etc... when this kind of thing happens a slight truss rod turn corrects it, generally looser in winter, tighter in summer ... or the other way around. I'd have to check.
