string trees on locking nut guitars

why?! I always remove them because they get in the way. I understand the point of them on normal nut guitars, but why do locking nuts have them?

They're there to keep the strings seated touching the bottom of the slots (headstock facing side) of the nut, minimizing the need for tuning/pitch correctings when the pads are locked.
Depends on the headstock angle and the height of tunging shafts.

Exactly. You should keep them in place.
