Strip 'n Dip, or Clear it. Warning...... Ugly RG within.....

Ok, here's my failed 1st swirl attempt. Watcha' think? Slap on the clear or Mineral spirits and pretend it never happened?

As it's the first one I'd keep it for posterity and a measure of future improvement. Get another body for number 2 and if that one doesn't work out, then consider reswirling number 2, but keep number 1.

Also, I've seen professional swillers charge for worse swirls, it's not bad at all for a first try

Re-swirl it. While the swirl traces are there, some areas look like they've been swirled with a brush.

Try practicing on a piece of plywood that measures the length and width of the body so you don't have to second guess your attempt.

I personally would clear it as a stepping stone to see how your swirling skills evolved over time

Well, at least it's documented. I was going for a gentle contrast. I got "a sunset took a crap on my guitar."

Re: Strip 'n Dip, or Clear it. Warning...... Ugly RG within.....

Sorry for the double post. This body is my practice piece. jb, ur correct as more than half of it needed brushing for touch ups. Even tho it is a 97 MIK RG 470, it still deserves better than being the doorstop it was used for when I found it.

I don't have any delusions of turning it into a prestige, but I'd like to make it a cool little axe to gift a friend or to gig with occasionally. Ya know, try to put a little soul on it!

Tbh, the pics don't do it justice. The enamels I used for brushing are so bright it might induce seizures with the current paint job. I do however appreciate the feedback from you guys. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a forum like this for bouncing ideas, opinions, etc off fellow string heads.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and give it the old mineral spirits suck-eraser. Maybe try again with some magic marble or swirling the spray enamels like I've read on other threads. Thanks again for the feedback! It's always welcome and I'm thick-skinned so if I post one that induces nausea or just hurts to look at, don't be afraid to tell me.

And just be thankful I didn't post a vid of my playing! That'd really offend some sensibilities

I actually like the front, not sure about the back cause of that angle, but i guess no ever sees that but you. It seems i'm the only person here suggesting that you keep it

Here's a pic of the back Julz.

It's already been stripped now and I'll be putting the 2nd attempt in my 2nd chance thread.
