Strongest Spring Configuration?

what is stronger, ||| or /|\ ? im having problems getting my 1527 in tune cuz the trem keeps ending up a good 1/2 inch above where it is supposed to be (parallel).

Which has nothing to do with your springs unless you're using a new heavier guage, and everything to do with how you're tuning

I remember the first time I tried to do a "rush" string change on my Floyd Rose Strat before a gig. I was tuning up and heard a click from the bridge. WHOA! The trem was sitting at a 45 degree angle to the body! I did notice though, that the strings required less manual stretching when this maneuver was performed.

If you already screwed up and the tail of your bridge is sticking way up in the air with the action 1/2" off the fretboard the only sure way to cure it is to crank in on the trem springs and start backing down the tuning. (from the above page)
since my trem springs are already most of the way in and i am switching from 9s to 10s, i think a change in spring config is in order. anyway i finally got it done after an hour or 2 of messing with it (my 1st string change on a floater), and I switched to a /|\ from a |||. that seemed to help a lot.

oh, and rich says elsewhere on the site that he always uses a 4 spring setup for 10s, so instead of using 4, i'll use a stronger 3.

Hmmm I wonder if I need another spring since i put the 9 guage hybrid on mine ( I think thats what they are called). You know the 9 gauge Daddario set that has the yello XL logo and the top three strings are slightly thicker???

Well, my Radius got three springs, and I play a set of .011 Strings (regular) in Eb. A mixed .009 should be no problem.

There is really no need for a fourth spring unless you change the tuning on your guitar from one key to another i.e. if you are tuning your guitar in in D and then decide to go to E (from regular 009-042 set to a have hybrid strings), same appears if you go from E to D and go from regular 009-042 set to a have hybrid strings), or are going to very heavy hybrid strings in. As long it is standard hybridcombination (009-046) then it should be fine. In these cases you will be needing to adjust the screws that holds the springclaws.

You just might need to adjust the screws that holds your springclaw alittle to balance the trem. I use hybrid myself in my all guitars and I used Daddario hybrid 009-046 but I switched to Vinci 009-046 (better tone with Vinci and surprisingly they are cheaper also ).

(Corrected mistakes in my spelling, but there might still be more mispellings :P )

On a used S540 I bought recently, it was tuned down a whole step with 0.010's on it (I think) and I wanted to bring it up to standard pitch, but the screws in the back were already all hte way in. I added a 4th spring, and the trem angle is now about right, but man, stiff as hell. I'm going to put 0.009's on it soon though, so I may be able to take that 4th spring off.
