Tone control mod?

I never use the tone control on my guitars, I have heard some people say you get a little extra brightness if you disable it, leaving it full blast at all times. Any truth to this, or is it the same?

It's true. It doesn't really work like leaving it on full blast. Any potentiometer has a maximum amount of signal that it will let pass, and every pot in a circuit will bleed off some signal. In a guitar circuit, this normally translates to a loss of top end. Removing any controls that you don't need will reduce the amount of signal loss to the minimum possible. It also works with volume controls, but is more noticeable with tone controls. Get rid of the tone control if you don't use it, but don't expect miracles. The difference can be noticeable, but its not huge.

Did it, sounds great! I think the improved brighness and clarity is VERY noticeable. I am kicking myself for not doing this years ago........

yay

good to see somebody else who now knows.. there was a arguement about this in another forum and I would take a tone knob free guitar anyday over one w/ it. Although i do like that Tone-X or X-Tone knob it's got a huge frequency range like having an onboard wah.
