tune up, lock down, tune up again?

Hey guys, I've got a slight problem right now. It has never happened until now. I put strings on, I tune up and everything is fine. Then I lock the nut down, and then my tunings are all f'ing crazy off. My low E is an Eb my A is almost A#. It's freakin weird. I looked at it from the side to see if the strings weren't laying on the nut correctly, but they look like they are. Any suggestions? I have a JS1000.

First check the string retainer bar behind the nut. The bar should be low enough to cause the strings to bend between the back of the nut and the tuning post.

If the retainer is ok, check to make sure that the nut mounting screws on the back of the neck are snug. Do not over tighten.

Another possible cause could be the string lock pads twisting slightly when you lock them down. Try turning the pad screws hand tight to where they just make contact with the pads. Next give the screw a quick twist to lock the pad in place. Again, there's no need to over tighten.

i often happen to turn the pads screws hand-tight, then tighten them with the Allen key, but they keep twisting out.
to prevent this, i bring anything that matches the gap between two pads as a width (usually a flat screwdriver), i stick it in the gap, then i'll tighten the pads screws down.
the pads will stay in place, and the tuning won't get upset.
