Re: Tuning to....

Whole step down is nothing major, .10 should be perfect. .9 or .11 would work fine, your pick really.

Re: Tuning to....

A set of 11's tuned down a whole step would require minimal spring tension adjustment, but a set of 10's would work as well.

Lightbulb Re: Tuning to....

I'd try 10's or 11s, 9's will buzz quite a bit...

Re: Tuning to....

I use normaly 10's and with drop tunigs 11's. Eb tuning on my scalloped strat I use 11's because I get much better grip then. 9's are always too light for me, I guess I have pretty agressive attack.

Re: Tuning to....

So what exactly should I use on my ibanez note that I have a tremolo so it is harder to use real beefy strings

could you give the optimal gauges for whole step down drop C, step and half down, drop b

also I was going to drop c on my ibanez and I used 10 - 52 (bad idea)
It rasied the tremolo way too high (even with tension at max with four springs so I tuned to drop b to see what it sounds like and its real heavy)

thanks
wilchild

Re: Tuning to....

I normally play with 10s on all of my guitars in standard tuning, although I've found that 10s a half step down feels even more comfortable. My main guitar (a custom RG370DX) is in Drop C tuning (C G C F A D) and I have found that the perfect string gauge for the job are a set of Ernie Ball Power Slinky's to which I have swapped the .048 string with a .052 string so that all the strings have about the same amount of tension on them. The guitar plays and sounds awesome with this setup and it didn't require a whole lot of trem adjustment. I did, however, have to get the intonation re-adjusted but you have to do that whenever you change your tuning.
