Question Wang bar technical info!

Hi,

Anyone have any idea what the whammy bar on a lo-pro edge is made out of? My RG6-CSD2 has all chrome hardware and the black bar just looks wrong. I'm guessing from the 'research' i've done that Ibanez never made chrome whammy bars to match the hardware, with them all being black, so i'm considering either stripping the black off back to bare metal or getting it plated so it matches. Problem is i haven't a clue what's underneath, so I don't know if either can be done?!

And i don't fancy buying another bar just cos i've ****ed mine up experimenting!

Alternatively, has anyone else tried either stripping or plating their wang bars successfully? And therefore, how and with what?

Cheers,
Matt

Re: Wang bar technical info!

Put a magnet to it and see if it's steel. (I've never checked) If it is, and you strip the paint down to the metal it's going to eventually start rusting.
If it's that potmetal they use to make the bridges with, it's a dull gray color which would probably look worse than the black.
Plating may give you problems unless the they can spec the plating thickness to the same as the black finish, and who knows what that is?

Re: Wang bar technical info!

I sanded the black off one to go with my cosmo setup, then chrome setup, then back to cosmo set up. Worked out fine. Sanded just like with anything, heavy grit to light to light to light then buffing. I sprayed it with poly after that. It's been almost two years and no rust. Not too shabby. (BTW: pickups are back to orignal with IBZUSA in all three positions - the SD's didn't feel right.)
