Waterslide headstock decal finishing

Hey guys, I'm refinishing a strat headstock for a friend. He wants a matching color to the body and a specific logo type I can only find in a waterslide. I usually do vinyls and clear over with either poly or Spraymax 2K.

I've done the search a few dozen times now, but I keep coming up with 10 different "right" ways to do it. I've read to set it with MicroSol, then nitro mist coats for 2weeks,etc .To spray 2 mist coats of nitro before setting the decal, to sacrifice a virgin and set the decal in the blood, etc. So, here I am.

The decal I found comes with an acrylic lacquer coating too that just throws a whole new turd into the punch bowl.

Anybody that's used these, will the 2K be ok to use over the lacquer coated decal? Do I need to use the MicroSol to melt it onto the paint so the edges don't show? Should I forego my stockpile of paid-for finishing supplies and get spray nitro (which I detest after using 2K?)

Help me!

Re: Waterslide headstock decal finishing

Thanks AB!

I read thru the tutorial and I don't think it applies to what I'm trying to do. I already ordered the logo and I get 2 of them so we'll call #1 a mulligan if it doesn't fly.

I'll try the MicroSol and just clear it using my normal process, and hope for the best!
