What causes finish cracks?

Lately there's a construction site near my house and they pile everyday. This bothers me a lot as the house shocks when they are piling. What I want to ask is will the guitars which are sit in hard shell cases be affected by the shock? I really afraid that will cause any surface/finish crack, will it?

Thanks for input.

No...

If it's in a hardshell case, it's probably not feeling anything much. I was concerned about some guitars that were on wall hangers in my living room because the wall was the wall that runs along my back yard. The brick wall that fences my back yard is the border to a parking lot and new Wallgreens they just built. So, for weeks on end, I had the pounding going on, and neither the wall-mounted guitars or the ones on stands in the open really showed any adverse reactions.

My brick wall however needed replacing. They sank the lot to level it, and all my neighbors and I got a new brick fence out of the deal.

Thanks for the reply.

Your situation is as same as mine, the wall got a long crack, damn.

Then how about the laquer? What makes the laquer goes off?

Re: What causes finish cracks?

Finish cracks are a result of expansion and contraction of the wood(or even the finish itself) and the finish not being able to move, as its brittle, so it cracks. Lacquer checking results from different temperature cahnges expanding and contracting the finish. East coast guitars usually have more than California guitars. I think the Jem neck pocket finish crack ( ihave at least 2) is in part due to the thinness of the wood at the sides of the pocket,.
