What do you guys use to clean maple fretboards?

I've heard everything on here from simple green to spit...

Really though, haven't we come to an agreement? I'm cleaning my 550 tomorrow and I wanna know what's safe to use.

That tread is kinda weird. It has no resolution, a few different ideas on cleaning and some posts bringing doubt to whether some of the suggestions are good to use, like do you really want to use simple green and remove more clear coat? For a person looking for the best way to clean maple fretboard it's a bit confusing.

Sometimes I use a little bit of hand soap, either antibacterial in the pump bottle or Ivory, on a wet wash cloth. I get the cloth pretty wet, add a dash of soap, work the cloth to distribute the soap then wring most of the water out of the cloth and wash away. Next I immediately follow with a plain water wash cloth that is well rung and wipe all the soap off if any remains. Finally and most importantly I immediately use a dry soft cloth to remove all moisture from the neck. Make sure the neck is good and dry. All done.

Exactly. It seems all the solutions on here are never agreed upon. I've read every thread and not one of them has a way to clean it that everyone says: yeah that should work.

That is because there is no "one solutions for all". Some people prefer to just steel wool, and oil. Others want to scrape down to bare wood, and oil, Tru Oil or whatever.

You are going to have to read, and then try what you think works for you.
