What exactly was wrong with the Edge III?

I've heard that the Edge III gets a bad rap. I'm curious as to why? Does anyone know exactly what was wrong with it mechanically?

I have a friend who is a CNC guru, he told me he can make a new blade for me for my Edge III and while he's making me a new part (stainless steel), I'm wondering what if any other parts there are that he could possibly make that would turn this into a better tremolo.

Anyway, thanks for any feedback.

The problem is probably mostly based around the metallurgy of the parts. By blade do you mean a replacement baseplate? The knife edges far as I can recall are all attached to the baseplate, so if you're having a new baseplate made up, combine that with higher quality posts and you'll most likely end up with a reasonably functional long lasting bridge.

Hi Lone... Yes, I do mean baseplate. Also, I am going to have him make new posts as well. My posts show a little sign of wear on them as well. No sense in having a nice stainless steel plate made just to cut into soft posts.

Stainless is the last thing you want. You want hardened steel. Hardened after it's cut of course.

Stainless steel is generally a lot less hard wearing than other steel alloys, especially heat treated ones. The main reason stainless steel is used in anything is corrosion resistance.

after a conversation i had with the guy who set up my guitar ,he tells me that ibanez use soft steel and this the reason why the system broke or damaged easy.original floyd rose use hard steel and the problems there is almost zero.also you can find the smallest part of floyd rose separate in market ,you dont need to change all the system in something broke or damaged
