Worn truss rod nut problems

Hey guys I was trying to go through the steps mentioned in the the tech section regarding truss rod setup. My guitar is a RG550 from 1991 that I bought used and that I have not made any truss rod adjustment on yet.

Problem is, the hex wrench (ibanez multitool) does not move any further on the nut than those wear marks, even if I push it hard from behind. I don't want to turn it that way, unlike some previous owner (obviously). It almost seems there is not enough space below the nut to fit the tool... Any ideas?

Re: Worn truss rod nut problems

I had an 540P many moons ago with very little space between the nut and the wood. At the end I filed down the ring of a regular box spanner to get it onto the nut.

Re: Worn truss rod nut problems

i have had a couple of instances like yours. I just found the right sized socket put an extension on it and hammered the socket on to the truss rod nut. I didn't go crazy on the hammering, it is pretty easy to break the neck, but a smaller rubber mallet did the trick. I couldn't really think of an easier way to go.
