Worth the upgrade for my axe?

Hi ya, this is my 1st post in this forum, so pardon me if I sound stupid or probably annoying.

Ok, recently I just bought a ibanez guitar ( I can't tell the model or I will be certainly shot by you guys, its quite a reputable model btw), and having it compared to my 1st guitar, I find it VERY uncomfortable to play with. Alright I admit its my fault for not trying out in the shop althought, I bought it online. After trying to adapt to Ibanez neck for around a month, I finally find it acceptable. Until then, I decided to try and do some mods to my 1st guitar, giving it a fresh refinish, and after doing my own DIY textured finish, I fix on everything and i play one it again. And again i realise its so wonderful, the neck just amazing fits my hand. I don't know, the 1st guitar is a Yamaha Pac012.

Its has a solid agathis body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard (self-scalloped). I would like to give a new set of pickups, do you guys think its worth the effort to upgrade the pickups for a agathis body? Is agathis wood such a bad tone wood? To be serious, i cant hear any difference between agathis and bass, oh well maybe because I am using a $15 sx amp from ****.

Re: Worth the upgrade for my axe?

Welcome to the board.

Your cheap amp is probably not really giving you much in tonal variations. What don't you like about your Ibanez axe? Seeing that you're using to playin a scalloped fretboard it may be because your Ibanez axe isn't scalloped. None the less if you don't like it just sell it.

Upgrading a guitar is very well worth the money as long as you benefit from it. Quite frankly having a $#!T amp with a guitar with good pickups isn't going to make a HUGE difference, but it will none the less. I'd probably recommend selling the guitar you don't like and then buying something like a Roland Micro Cube or something along that line. When you have a half decent amp then your pickups will make more of a difference.

Agathis ain't bad, just not great but at least it's still better than plywood
