Re: Edge 3 tremolo

Based on my personal experience, it's not that awful, but it needs some changes. It should have a "screw" in the trem arm so it doesn't pop out easily. Something like this:

It's not that awful when set up properly, imo.

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

it works decent if you don't abuse on it and don't pull-up. the worst things are the arm starting to wobble just after 5-6 dives, and the posts groove getting worn immediately.

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

yeah but nuno, if i want a floyd rose, i want it to be able to do what its supposed to do properly, and even when setup properly, it will stay in tune, but nowere near as long as it should, and its almost imposible to get them to return to the correct pitch.

Despite serious abuse, the Edge III on my RG350 works just fine, holds tune, returns to pitch properly and has a better feel than the Edge Pro 7 on my RG1527.

Agree with the issues about the arm working loose but it's 5 seconds work with an allen key to tighten it again when it does.

Maybe I got a good one.

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

you realise ibanez has lower quality trems for a reason right? the type of trem on a superstrat plays a big part in the overall playability of the guitar. ibanez (and almost every other company) uses lower-end bridges to separate the higher end guitars (prestige) from the lower end guitars (standard rg's).

They could probably sell Xiphos' for 100 bucks more if they used a better trem, and in this case your only option is either the Edge III or a fixed bridge.

It's an improvement to the Edge 2 if nothing else.

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

I have also had much trouble with my Edge III. After replacing the studs, nut pads, and spending $75 on a SERIOUS set up, it works better...however...it does not perform as well as a floating trem should.

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

Hey,

IMO the Edge 3 Is Fine, when Set up Correctly.

1. The "Arm Pop-Out Can Be Fixed By Tightening a Grub Screw Placed Under The Arm Collar.
2.It Shoud Pe Angled With a Little Dive, So That the Arm Height Lines Up With The Hole On The Back Plate.

Its A fine Trem When Set up well, and if You Use grease on the Knife Edges It Will Hade An even smoother Action. My RG08LTD Has A Gold Edge 3, And I Haven't Had To Tune using The Tuner End In 3 Months (Including Gigs). Note: I have Done The Trem Setup Myself, I'm not a guitar Tech and The guitar hasn't ever been Setup By a Techie.

Using Those rules I Got My other Chinese Licensed Floyd Rose (13!) on My EVH Replica To work Like a Dream Too!

Saying The Edge 3 is AWFUL isn't Really Usefull, Its Just The Way Certain Ones Are Set-up (e.g. some techies might not know that they need a slight dive.)

IMO It's Smoother and more Comfortable Than The Original Floyd Rose, but thats me lol.

Anyways im not an Expert

Re: Edge 3 tremolo

Mine work fine on my 350's. I've had one in a case for a while but I bet if I go home and pull it out it'll still be in tune. The casting isn't as nice and the percision isn't as tight as on a Prestige trem but it's still pretty good.
And yes, I think Ibanez would do well by making a MIJ Xyphos with an Edge Zero (or better) trem. Imagine Xyphos with an Edge Pro or Lo Pro???
