End The Jem / UV Lines !!!

I think it's about time that the Jem & UV series were wound up for good (and have done for some time).

A signature model is all very well and there have been a number of breathtaking models in the past, especially in the Jem line, but they've simply gone on for far too long.

The Jems in particular were outrageous, in your face 'you know you want one' guitars throughout the '80s & early '90s....but they've just been dire looking ever since.

In fairness, Steve Vai's general appearence and image seem to have gone the same way, much more reserved and 'normal' looking than in the David Lee Roth & Whitesnake days (or is that the idea....dumb down the production models to match the star?)

Sadly, with the exception of the vastly overpriced limited edition models, all you've really released in the last 20+ years is a succesion of boring looking 'guess we ought to add another colour to the series' class of Jem...with the Jem FP2, Jem 505 & Jem 70 being nothing more than a joke in my opinion.

Whatever happened to the in your face, outlandish colours that the Jem was famous for?

Sadly i had to sell my collection of older Jems a year or so ago....i came back to Jemsite to see if things had changed / improved / gone back to the good old days........sadly not!!

Not criticising the quality in any way, i hasten to add, but i feel something has got lost along the way with these series of guitars.

For everybody's sake, just pull the plug on them and let us lot remember how outrageously good they used to be !!!

Re: End The Jem / UV Lines !!!

I think it's a reflection of the current marketplace and Steve's current tastes. Steve designed his dream guitar, and likes it the way it is. Why fix it if it isn't broken? People are still buying them, or Ibanez wouldn't continue to make them. As far appearance (colors etc..) I think there should be a little more variety too, but face it, loud neon 80's colors and swirls etc.. just aren't in fashion anymore in the mainstream market. The small group of people that are into that pay big bucks for reissues and the old ones. I'd like to see a sweet quilted or flame maple top Jem, but that's sort of what the J Customs are all about. If you think adding more colors that reflect current trends are a joke, then don't buy one?! Doesn't mean they should kill the line if it still makes them money. It's a business. Besides killing the line, what improvements would you like to see? I'd like to see that "super trem" or whatever that never came out.

The fact remains the Ibanez RG BODY shape is one of the most popular on the planet and the jem is just a version with extra features... I cant see the Jem ever being removed as a model, even when god forbid Vai moves on to the next realm of existence..

That, and (IIRC) the Jem came before the RG!
