Re: JEM bass?

Ya know, it seems that some people here are thinking this is a serious build...... its all about the 'what if ibby made a jem/uv bass'!!! I know its gonna sound like crap, might even look like crap too.....but.....at least someone is willing to mock one up for fun!!!!

I dont play bass, so my needs for certain parts or capabilities of the instrument arent even taken into account!!!! Undoubtably the real bass players here are having a good chuckle and im glad i can provide a few laughs!!!!

If ya cant laugh at goofy builds like this, then find your sense of humour!!! Just enjoy the stupidness of it all!!!

Laugh people...LAUGH!!!!!

Re: JEM bass?

Why would you think it will sound like crap? Does the bass sound like crap already?

Re: JEM bass?

@ Ekim....mate, it aint the best bass ibby have made.....lets face it, it aint top of the line by no means. I played a mates Conklin sidewinder the other day and the comparison of tone between them was like night and day!!! Granted they are two different beasts, but the ibby isnt something i would call a tone monster!!!

@nato.....its all gonna be about the looks mate!! Yeah later on ill go some decent pups and try and improve on what its already got!!! Better nut, bridge.......its a work in progress! Have to decide on a bridge next......Hipshot or Kahler.....hmmmmmmm
Thanks for the kind words dude!!

Rock on!!! \,,/

Re: JEM bass?

I didn't think it was a top-of-the-line bass, but I suspect that with good pups and/or preamp, you could get a good grindy, Ampeg-driven semi-distorted bass tone out of it.

Something like a Philip Bynoe-type Fire Garden / Ultra Zone tone. Snappy thumps and pops with a good chimey top end for the riffage. Like a Billy Sheehan tone, but maybe with more clarity.

Re: JEM bass?

If you could, a set of MEC's may work nicely. They are AMAZING in my Warwick.

Re: JEM bass?

If my current JEM guitar build goes well, I might do another ash bass JEM.

I'd scale the size up a bit, and do different pickup cavities, but other then that, I'd keep the shape and the grip the same.

DY JEM bass with 2 MM humbuckers, anyone?

Re: JEM bass?

still voting kahler bridge. i dont believe the hipshot pulls up? if you want it to be a UV bass, its gotta be close to a lo-pro and as we all know, the lo-pro pulls up......... and is there a locking nut for bass?

You can pull the hipshot tremolo. It floats so why wouldn't you be able to?

Re: JEM bass?

to me it looks like a strat bridge for bass. flat on the body etc. and if the base plate of the bridge is flat on the body, you cant pull up anymore unless the route is bigger (which it might be) but to me it just looks like it has all the limits of a strat bridge

Re: JEM bass?

It has the two studs like a floyd. Its not like the six screw one's.And even the six screw one's can float without routing.but like i said the hipshot has two studs. So you get just as much pull as a floyd rose.
