Wink Petition to open a Semi-Custom Shop based upon J.Custom.

Dear Ibanez!

You have reached an unsurpassed level of craftsmanship that enables you to build true works of art that your Fujigen J.Custom instruments undoubtedly are.

However, scant choice of options and export restrictions/currency rates have long been major impediments to acquisition of these incredible instruments by solvent and demanding players.

As an example, many of us have refrained from buying J.Customs over the last five years because of the ubiquitous vine inlay. Some of us have even made inquiries with a number of Japanese retailers and were told that we could actually have the vine taken out if we ordered a batch of six or more identical instruments. Due to obvious reasons it was a bit out of our reach.

We understand that launching a full-fledged Custom Shop might be venturesome and requires considerable effort and investments. We also understand the pivotal role LACS plays in your artist relations policy. Hence we propose a Semi-Custom Shop, i.e. allowing for a limited number of options to be added to existing J.Custom instruments, while retaining their unique features such as asymmetrical neck profiles, titanium neck reinforcement, smooth ball fret endings, select timbers etc.

We propose the following options:

Body type: RG, S.
Number of strings: 6, 7.
Body: Mahogany/Maple, Alder.
Neck mount: Bolt-on, Neck-through.
Neck profile: J.Custom.
Fretboard material: Rosewood, Ebony, Maple.
Fretboard marking: Dots, Offset Dots, Blank.
Fretboard binding: Wood, Plastic, None.
Bridge: Edge Zero.
Pickups: a limited choice of pickups.
Colours: a limited choice of colours.

We suggest that introducing this very limited choice of options can potentially yield good return on investments ratio and help perfect the skills of your finest luthiers even further, let alone make the most loyal of your customers happy.

Especially so since you already offer batches of a minimum of six custom instruments to distributors.

Please lend your ear to those of us who appreciate your absolute best and are willing to pay for it. Please let J.Custom finally become custom!

Count me in!!!

I'd also ask for the addition of the Original Edge/ Lo-Pro Edge trems as an option.

Re: Petition to open a Semi-Custom Shop based upon J.Custom.

The vine needs to be an option along with edge/lo pro edge.

I love my J custom vine more than my offsets so i would still like to have the option there,
i mean its a HUGE trademark of the brand and just plain awesome.

But I'm in total agreement with you and many of us JC owners have wanted this 'pick your parts' assembly choice......not that i really need anymore JC's.

Re: Petition to open a Semi-Custom Shop based upon J.Custom.

I've stickied this thread, not to lend it my support as, like many others I would need additional options from the OP's list of personal preferences to make a J-Custom I'd want to buy, but mainly to see whether people could ever agree to someone else's option list.

So if you'd go with JUST the options the OP has suggested sign up, otherwise list the options you'd want.

I think this thread will serve to demonstrate why a "semi custom" shop is again, probably not a viable business option. My own view is that, folks here of whom 1 in 10 who posts in this thread would never probably actually custom order the guitar anyway, even after bickering about options.

I'd need the orignal Edge bridge, limitless colours, more body wood options (swamp ash and basswood) different binding options perloid and purfling, and so on.

I don't mind different profiles as long as it's feasible.

I haven't tried current models, but RG8320 neck is by no means chunky.

Yes, I meant Pearloid as well, as it is a kind of plastic.

There is a neck profile known as J Custom. The RG8320 has a Super Wizard neck.

I thought current models had the same neck as RG8320 (JC version of Super Wizard) designated "J.Custom". Or RG8470F at least:

http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/J_Custom_series

The dimensions still seem the same:

Yep that is correct. We're just getting our wires crossed here. Your original post says

Neck Profile: J Custom

Some of the earlier JC's did have a neck/neck profile known as J Custom, different dimensions to the J Customs today, I have one here, definitely is a bit beefier than a Wizard or Super Wizard.

When you say Neck Profile: J Custom, you must obviously mean the Neck Profile of the current J Customs. The newer ones are also called J Custom but i don't think the profile is the same.

Edit. Neck Profiles here
