This clip just served to remind me that modeling technology isn't there yet. I'm still hearing the kazoo sounding upper frequencies and the general coldness. The playing rocks tho

Yeah the playing is very vaish but the tone sounds absolutely nothing like Vai. Sounds like a $100 solid state amp.

Digital-> TRansmiting Information
Art is analog.

Take it form an EE
BTW that play deserves a CARVIN.

it has a very low HF cutoff frequency.
It lacks harmonics.

Re: Analog/Digital hmmm..... (please listen)

I had the luxury to mic my JCM800 amp in my appt just one day. After taking a break from recording i went out for a beer and when i reached my building entrance i saw an ambulance with an elderly men on the stretcher. I wondered if it was my jcm on 4 that did it to the guy. loool...

After that i decided to get the Boss GS10 for home recording. And i knew what im gonna get out of it is not equal to the jcm800. No matter what i do it stills sound buzzy and lack harmonics. Digital made a huge improvement but never gonna sound like the real thing.

You can hear it here on my demo album RISE www.soundclick.com/rabihsaad I got some nice tone with the gs10 and bravo to BOSS for putting out some nice modeling.

To go back to the original post and the vaiish song. You can tell the lack of harmonics and the end range of the spectrum and the muffed low notes.
But its good for what it is. DIGITAL....

Regards

Re: Analog/Digital hmmm..... (please listen)

The analog/digital debate is osmething that i've been considering for sometimes. I have to admit that live valves sound much better to me. However in the studio things can SOMETIMES be a little different. I also think that some people forget that for example a marshall solid state amp is still analog, just using transistors instead of tubes! Also the likes of the old satch rig, yes going through a tube head, but the distortion came from a solid state ds-1 pedal. People are far too concerned with "must have valves" and i must use this because my hero does yaddah yaddah. You gotta just use your ears more. I;ve heard some great bands using modeling!
