Big trouble for Megadeth - two departures

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I'm surprised no one had mentioned this already. It's week old news, but I just stumbled upon it last night while browsing FB.

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/meg...ot-disbanding/

Over the last few years Broderick was quickly becoming a favorite of mine. But first he drops our favorite guitar brand, and now he's leaving one of my favorite bands.

I wish Chris luck and will keep an eye on where his career takes him next. But my bigger concern is what will this mean for Megadeth. They finally had a stable line-up again after years of uncertainty.

Speculation begins on what happens next? Some may predict Megadeth will fold. I'd rather have fun speculating on who might return (if any). I did read somewhere already that Glen Drover and Jeff Young have shut down any rumors they could go back.

So that leaves... Chris Poland? Marty Friedman? Could we see the classic Rust In Peace lineup with Marty & Nick back? Or completely new players? There's a rumor Dave Lumbardo mght be interested.

Ellefson is saying they're not done as a band, but I don't know if that's an "official statement":

As awesome as it would be, I highly doubt Friedman would return, I think there's a lot of bad blood there.

Would be great to see Mike Portnoy behind the drum kit but I think that's a pipe dream of mine.

Really? I always thought that in his case his departure based on "artistic differences" was literal and the true story. I don't recall there being bad feelings.

I've read Mustaine's autobiography. Maybe I'll have to re-read the section covering that period.

Thats too bad... Chris is a dynamite guitar player. Maybe he got tired of watching Mustaine do all the solos... lol. When I saw them on the Supercollider tour, I was surprised that Broderick only did a few of Marty's solos and one solo off the Supercollider album... Mustaine did 90% of the lead guitar. Man, they kicked @ss!! Did all the old classics and big hits.

Re: Big trouble for Megadeth - two departures

Having chris being stuck in megadeth was a HUGE shame. The guy is an insane player and I stopped following him for the most part once he joined Megadeth. I feel like putting someone with his monster chops in a boring band like Megadeth was a total waste of good talent. Obviously it was a killer career move and I don't fault him for it at all, but I am beyond happy he left

Chris was the first guy who could do Marty's solos. Definitely a big loss for Megadeth.

Dave hasn't had longevity with many people.. I can't say I'm surprised. I read his book too and i can see why

Yeah... he needs to be out doing his own thing. At least being in Megadeth got his name out there! Dave mostly just needs a rhythm player, except for some Marty solos. Marty's solo at the end of "Captive Honour" is mind blowing... I dunno if Dave can do that one.

BTW - Megadeth is awesome... fyi. They got wrongly classified as a "thrash" band eons ago. Mustaine is one of the guys that made metal guitar into what it is today... It was his style that influenced Metallica, Slayer, and others.

No doubt. I'm not really big on thrash at all though haha.

I disagree. Chris is technically great, but he sounds "cold"... I've seen no one in Megadeth do what Marty did, with the passion and charisma Marty had, in my very personal opinion.

Anyway, Megadave is all about Dave for a long time. He'll find other talented guys and just go on. And he'll say "oh, this new guitarist is truly the best we've ever had!", as always. And no lineup will beat the classic Marty+Nick lineup, because that's what we old dogs were raised listening to.

Well I guess I would say at least Chris is the only one I have heard do the Marty solos note for note. Whether it was passionate or cold I will let you judge.

Re: Big trouble for Megadeth - two departures

The revolving door of the Dave Mustaine Megadeth Tribute Band continues.

Not a surprise. Hopefully Broderick will hook up with Loomis or Merrow and do a new project in that nevermore style again.

Ouch. As a fan that hurts to hear. However I acknowledge that there is sadly some truth to that.

But I would say the same for Axl Rose and his "band". I liked GnR of yesteryear, but I'm definitely not in camp-Axl and feel its unfortunate that of all the former classic line-up he was somehow the one who retained the rights for the name.
