Breakthru?

Recently I came across a completely new way of playing the pentatonic scale. Of course I´ve been playing it in the "box" mode for years, but now I feel like a completely different guitarist. I hope to be posting some lessons on it shortly. But for now, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar "AHA" moment lately?

Well, i had many "Aha" moments, mostly because instead of learning from books i tried to figure everything out by myself (which is not neccesarily a good idea)...so what exactly is this breakthrough of yours?

Well basically in stead of playing the typical two notes per string, you play three. For instance in the key of A you could play:

G--14-12-9---------14-12-9
D-----------12-10-7---------12-10-7-etc.

This is of course just the absolute basics of the idea, but belive me there´s potential in this stuff. I have at least doubbled my speed on the blues front, and it also makes for some exellent stretching.

This is exactly what Paul Gilbert figured out back in the 80's. 3 note per string stuff is tailer-made for shredding. If you can find his Instruction videos, he shows how to play all these great riffs and scales and leads on 3 strings instead of 2.

Bar Hook, the only way these scales are helpful is if you FIGURE THEM OUT YOURSELF! you'll have a better understanding of pentatonic scales and be able to use them effortlessly. just my opinion though.
