hmm. that's the studio version, and i'm betting you guys are talking about the g3 live version. That intro rocks.

I don't know it, i'm afraid, but i believe the chord thing he busts into aver it (that is pretty much passed over in the tab there) goes something like

Code:
  C7sus4 Bb/C C7sus4 Bb/C C7#9 w/. bar
|-6---6--6----6-----6---6---6---6-----|-------------------------------|
|-6---6--6----6-----6---6---6---6-----|---------4-----4---------------|
|-5---5--5----3-----5---3h5-5---5-----|---3-----3-----3----<2.5>~~~~~-|
|-3---3--3----3-----3---5---5---3-----|---2-----2-----2-X\------------|
|-3---3--3----3-----3---3---3---3--X\-|-3---3-3-3--3--3-X\------------|
|----------------------------------X\-|-------------------------------|
Although, if you note, the first two chords can both be treated as C11 chords- they're both entirely composed of the 1, 7, and 11, of the chord. I've just named them as they appear to be on the fretboard, but the sound you're hearing is definately an 11th chord...

This is near as i can get off memory, anyway. Hope it helps a bit in gettin ghtis down. Oh, and play the chords with a good amount of fretting hand vibrato, and go nuts with the bar at the end.

here's how he actually plays it, slightly different voicings, i guess you could call them Cm11(no 5/9) and Cm7(no 5)

|1-------1-------|1------------------|
|1-------1-------|----1--------------|
|3-------3-------|--------3----------|
|1-------1-------|--------------1-1-|
|3-------3-------|--------------3-3-|
|-----------------|-------------------|

|---------------------|
|----------4----4----|
|----------3----3----|
|---------------------|x\ etc....
|--3-3-3-----3------|x\
|---------------------|

Hmm. broke out the CD to check. The high A i had in there definately isn't there, but if you leave that out, i still think mine might be right- i'm definately hearing the b7-1 hit on in there, and i think i remember his hands being in approximately those positions on the video- i'll check it next week when i'm home for break.

till then.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that i checked the video already... about 5 years ago :-) He's definitely in 1st position. The hammer-on you thought you heard is probably both notes being struck on adjacent strings.

go on ebay and do a search under joe satriani......i usually find the tab book (for real cheap) to the whole "Joe satriani" 1995 album........it's got killer blues licks and riffs. I figure you might as well get the whole book......cuz you're not going to find just the Cool #9 tab alone.......if you do, congratulations.

Hope this helps you out some........SilversurferII
