Dreamtheater Erotomania Clip: done with v-amp 2 and RG2820

Hi guys,

I recently re-did my rhythm sounds on the v-amp2 I just got. Did a quick take on the Erotomania riff..check it out and let me know how the tone sounds..pls excuse the bad timing and playing though!

you've got some balls dude. Most people wouldnt post something that they knew wasnt perfect. Kudos to you! That was a great attempt at a song that i feel is exceptionally hard to play. Its not the technique part, although that is somewhat difficult. Its the timing and phrasing (especially the first solo break). I'd be interested in hearing you play this again down the road when you've mastered it further. Good job!

I agree... it sounds like you're pushing hard to get the timing right and it's damned close.

Erotomania isn't hard at all. The only hard part is the very end section of the last solo, but if you practice, you can nail that too, CLEANLY!!! I can play Erotomania and most dream theater songs fairly easily. Some of petrucci's insanely fast stuff I need to build the speed up a bit, but it only takes practice. This is, however, a fairly good cover of the song, good job. But I can hear you struggeling to play this, try to get it to the point you can play it so it sounds as if it is a piece of cake. Even the hardest solos I take at this approach. Things like For the love of god solo are now easy to me and im learning alot of Train of Thought guitar stuff and its fairly easy. Just practice man, practice.

I just listened to the solo. Man, PRACTICE!!!! SLOWLY!!! AND THE RIGHT NOTES!!!! It took me hours of practing these solo section to get them as perfect as petrucci plays them. PRACTICE!!!! Dont play something you cant. You don't see Clapton trying to play Yngwie.

I think thats they reason I posted such a. mean .. post. I was expecting everyone here to be really good from what I heard and was just suprised. Please forgive me. About a recording, I'll try soon to get some stuff up. You don't have to believe me, just forgive me, my comments were completely out of line.

Nice attempt.

Try not to play faster then your backingtrack. Also, at least for this tune, find a good transcription and learn every melody/chord/riff/solo note by note. IMO this is not a tune where can improvise.

Aim for accuracy! You're on the right path!

great attempt man.

dont let people knock you down.. it's not easy by any bodys standards even if you've got it down perfectly and play it on tour and your names John Petrucci.. u wouldnt call it easy. it's obnoxious to call it easy..

Smells like Teen Spirit is easy, hey but i've seen people starting guitar strugle with that.. so it's all subjective to the player at hand really isnt it?

I think theirs a whole difference between what some people say and do on these boards.. that took some balls to post that, It's a great go at a hard piece of music.

The tune is great, and theres some little mistakes, but the song is very good. The only thing is that maybe you can turn down the guitar volume, only a little, because the guitar is too loud. Sounds very good, well done!!!!!!!

Only downloaded the riffs, couldn't download the solo's. Sounds well dude, tone is good to but you should've mastered the input of you V-Amp2, way too loud now. Got the machine too, for some reason me sound is ALWAYS better than what I've heard from other peoples presets.

Anyway, sounds cool!
