Re: Favorite instructional videos?

I'll agree that the Kotzen and Garsed vids are among the best I've watched.

John Petrucci: Rock Discipline:
rating: 9.5 / 10 -- very informative

Frank Gambale: Modes- No More Mystery:
rating: 6 / 10 -- quite informative and helpful, yet utterly boring to watch.

ESPExplorer351D: can you tell me a little bit about Michael Romeo's instructional vid?

Some of my faves are: Vinnie Moore's, Petrucci's, Shawn Lane's, Al DiMeola's, Marty Friedman's, Eric Johnson's, and more (just forgot right now). My problem with vids is I kind of watch them more like a fan would and not so much like gleaming every ounce of guitar goodness that I can from them

Re: Favorite instructional videos?

THE BEST video series is from Frank Gambale - "Chopbuilder"
The video made me twice as good as I was in about 2 weeks of practice. If you really want to become a better player, and not just watch someone shred for an hour pick this up!

Re: Favorite instructional videos?

Eric Johnson, Jow Diorio, PG I&II

Does anyone know if Vito Bratta ever put one out? I'd love to hear what he has to say. I do know that he cataloged every single chord, and what scales he could play over it. Sick stuff. Wish I had done that 15 years ago...

Re: Favorite instructional videos?

Does anyone have any experience with McLaughlin's DVD set "This is the way I do it"? Supposed to be awesome, but it's pricey - wondering if anyone's got any feedback on it?

Re: Favorite instructional videos?

1. Anything and everything that I've ever found of Paul Gilbert's. He's by far the best instructional video teacher that I've ever seen because he talks about things in a way that anyone can understand.

2. Michael Romeo - The Guitar Chapter
This is just an awesome video from an awesome guitarist and it's not too terribly difficult to understand.

3. John Petrucci - Rock Discipline
I didn't really understand him as much as I would Gilbert, but he does talk about some really cool things in that video.

I can't really list anything of Malmsteen's because I've never....EVER understood ANYTHING that he's talking about in them. Just WAY THE HELL OVER MY HEAD!!! Actually, I take that back. I have tried to use his little volume swell technique that he did with the delay but the volume location on my current guitar just isn't optimized for it. But just as something cool to watch, I guess I'd recommend it. It was called "Hot Licks" or something like that I think.

Re: Favorite instructional videos?

Of the ones I've seen, mine are Jason Becker (although not strictly instructional, it does include his Atlanta clinic, so I'll include it), John Petrucci, any of Paul Gilbert's, Marty Friedman and Shawn Lane.
