June JGC feeler thread

It's time to pick a new backing track for the June guitar challenge. So what do you guys want to do? I really enjoyed last month's track... fun to jam with.

Something mellow or ambient?

Something heavy?

Another modal track?

Alternative Polka?

Up for anything. Working on a song I have wanted to do for a long time but can get something recorded by months end.

You thought we didn't have a turn out this month, post alternative polka and we might not have any.

Don't worry... no polka for sure. Just throwing the threat of it out there to get some good suggestions. So what do you want to do? What song are you working on?

Always.

I have been playing a bunch of different backing tracks lately though. I can make something happen no matter what we do.

Re: June JGC feeler thread

Did some poking around on youtube tonight, so I'll throw a couple out there... kind of on the mellow end of the spectrum.

I still like this one:

I've been digging the hell out of the Suhr ML singlecoil set I recently threw in m Strat, so something I can play with a Strat on would rule.

Thats an awesome track, Drew... I like it!

Honestly, I'm good with any one of the three, so whichever one you guys prefer is fine with me.

Ha ha, thanks... but I like to pick a track everyone is happy with. I'm like you, good with whatever.

What say we do Drew's suggestion - the A Dorian track? It's so tasty and has interesting chord changes... not too long either.

Is everyone ok with this?

We can always save the other two for future use... I liked them too.

Re: June JGC feeler thread

A Dorian, by the way, for the guys who don't spend as much time playing modal stuff, is just an A Minor scale but with a major 6th rather than the minor 6th you see in the regular minor scale. You can play it as a G major scale, played from A to A and resolving to notes used in A minor chord changes (though, of course, the minor 6th changes things a little - an I-IV-V progression in A Dorian would be A minor, D major, and E minor).

It's pretty bluesy, and is a sound often associated with Santana.
