limpbizkit - "Results May Vary"

After hearing their song "Crack Addict" from Wrestlemania (w/ Head as guest guitarist) I was a little disappointed with the "new" limpbizkit. Then I saw the video for "Eat You Alive".

While this is a very different sound from Limp Bizkit with Wes Borland, I really kinda like this song. Fred's singing doesn't sound as whiny, the band is in top form, and the guitar seems to borrow a bit of a punk edge, making this sound almost screamo rather than nu-metal. It's got a really raw edge, rather than Wes's otherworldly, unconventional, but heavy guitars (which I love, don't get me wrong).

Here's the limpbizkit player:

Yea, I'm still not a big fan of Fred, but the band itself is in top form, with a bit of a new sound compared to them with Wes (still can't decide which I like better, so I'm gonna say I like 'em equally for different reasons).

Saw the video on MTV once. Didn't like it, but I thought that maybe the video was creating "interference" in my mind. The next time it started I closed my eyes.

I will not buy this album.

I've heard the entire album ("officially leaked" on MTV.com), and I probably won't buy it myself. Not to say I don't like it, it's got some nice moments, but the sound is actually less original now than it was with Wes (as most of us predicted). Wes was the glue that held that band together. The band's absolutely great, but Fred's still lacking, and this album just lacks anything to hold it together from song to song. Wes was the Limp Bizkit sound. With Wes their many influences got blended much more into their unique sound (face it, before all the copy bands, they were unique, first two/three (debatable) still are). Without Wes, each song feels like a tribute to one or two of their influences. One song's intro had me thinking of Metallica, another few of Adema, and some parts even had Wes's trademark spacey-clean-with-delay sound...not cool.

While it's not a terrible album, it's not their best. I'll wait for Eat The Day. Until then, I've got Damning Well.

I keep telling you you need to ckeck out some Thumb, Twohands... Victory Records, one of the premier american hardcore labels, did their american distrobution, and I remember first hearing about limp bizkit ages before they got major radio airplay from the boston hardcore scene (almost got laid that night, but that's a different story). I'd place money on the fact that Fred durst had an import copy of their indie debut or their "Encore!" re-release of it in his posession when LB recorded their breakthrough album. "Deny" could be an outtake from "three dollar bill..." if it wasn't so much better than what Durst was doing.

Oh, and i like the un-screamed bit of the "eat you alive" chorus melody. the song itself, though... sorry.
